Nancy Shawcross

Nancy Shawcross
Curator, Manuscripts, Rare Book & Manuscript Library
Nancy Shawcross
Rather than a single subject, Nancy is responsible for a form of material--manuscripts. Her first professional appointment related to archival collections was at the Dance Collection of The New York Public Library. At Penn her undergraduate degree in English Literature and Drama and M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature have formed the basis for curating a diverse collection of materials, ranging from medieval and Renaissance codex manuscripts to the literary papers of American authors such as Theodore Dreiser, Ezra Pound, and Harry Mathews. In addition, Nancy oversees the development of performing and literary arts manuscript collections, with particular emphasis on the greater Philadelphia area. She is also an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of English at Penn.
