| John earned his BA, MA, and PhD in Anthropology, and his MS in Library and Information Science from SUNY, Albany. He has held library positions at Harvard University and the University of Minnesota, and has conducted archaeological field research in New York, Wyoming, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. He is the author of several books and articles on Mesoamerican anthropology and archaeology, and has a particular interest in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean and Central America, and in the democratization of access to information. John is currently working on a historical study of a community of North American Free Blacks who migrated to Haiti in the 1820s, and remain there today as a distinct ethnic group |
