CorpTech Directory on CD

CONTENT

Current profiles of 95,000 US high tech companies, including US divisions of foreign-owned firms. Most are privately held or subsidiaries.

Company profiles typically include products, sales, employment, business description, primary industry and SIC codes. International and government activity is indicated.

Some records include NAICS codes, executives, ownership, corporate family and funding source. Screen for companies on a wide choice of criteria such as product, country of ownership, minority ownership, growth, souce of capital and more.

Search Example #1: What software companies make products for the petroleum industry?

STEP ONE

First, select INDEX search method (the default).

  1. INDEX (Left frame)
  2. Select an INDEX. Scroll down to Category: PRODUCTS
  3. Click on: PRIMARY-INDUSTRY
  4. Double-click on a Section: SOF-COMPUTER SOFTWARE, in the right frame.
        (This search term is now in your query at the bottom of the screen.) You have about 9000 companies.

STEP TWO

Refine your query with a Text search.

  1. TEXT (Left frame)
  2. Type: petroleum
  3. PETROLEUM is now highlighted. Double-click it.
  4. ADD TO QUERY. (You have found about 35 software companies with "petroleum" in the company description field.)

Are you satisfied with this list?
Proceed to STEP THREE below.

Do you want more companies?
Repeat Step Two, typing: gas
You haved added "gas" to the search string
Now you have about 80 software companies with "petroleum" or "gas" in the company description field.

Too many companies?
Skip ahead to STEP FOUR

Warning! Your query will be cleared when you click on SUMMARY.
You can save it with the SAVE icon. (See "Getting Around")

STEP THREE

View your results:

  1. SUMMARY in the Tool Bar (Now you see your list of companies.)
  2. Double-click on any listing to see a full company profile
  3. Click on SUMMARY to return to the list
  4. Check the companies for which you want full profiles. Want them all? Click icon next to the check symbol.
  5. Click RECORD to view the company full profiles. The arrows on the tool bar move you around in your list.

STEP FOUR

Narrow your list to firms within a particular annual sales range:

  1. SEARCH
  2. INDEX
  3. Select an INDEX Category: For example, SIZE
  4. Click on an Index: SALES
  5. Double-click on a Section: For example, $10-$25M (This search term has been added to your query.)
  6. You have now found about 12 companies

STEP FIVE

Save to a disk, or print using browser tool bar.

  1. Insert your floppy disk
  2. Open FILE/EXPORT and double-click on ASCII
  3. A box will appear. Replace the file name with yours: A: xxxxxx
  4. Select Template: RECORDS(S) ASCII TEXT
  5. Select EXPORT RANGE: CHECKED or RANGE
  6. EXPORT

Search Example #2: Find consultants specializing in wireless technology located in Florida.

STEP ONE

First, do an INDEX SEARCH.

  1. SEARCH
  2. INDEX
  3. Select an INDEX Category: PRODUCTS
  4. Click on: TECHNOLOGY PHRASE
  5. Type: consulting
  6. Double-click on CONSULTING SERVICES - TELECOMMUNICATION (You have about 1800 companies.)

STEP TWO

Narrow your results with a TEXT search for wireless.

  1. TEXT
  2. Type: wireless
  3. "Wireless" is now highlighted. Double-click it
  4. Click on ADD TO QUERY (You have about 80 companies now.)

STEP THREE

Now, limit to companies in Florida.

  1. INDEX
  2. Select an INDEX category: For example, LOCATION
  3. Click on an index: STATE
  4. Double-click on FLORIDA (You now have a list of about 10 companies.)
