Value Line is an independent research company that collects data and analyzes performance of all New York Stock Exchange and American Stock Exchange traded stocks, along with major Nasdaq stocks and other securities. Each weekly issue includes:
- Ratings & Reports (analyses of about 120 stocks and 4-10 related industries)
- Selection & Opinion
- Summary & Index (Comparative table of stocks +cumulative index)
- Rating & Reports Supplementary. Updated company news & Economic indicator charts.
All company and industry reports are updated over the course of each fiscal quarter.

The library holds Value Line in three formats:
- WEB Includes the current issue and 12 back issues
- CD-ROM Lippincott Workstation #12. Current issue + 10 years of selected historical financials. Spreadsheet format.
- MICROTEXT (1969 to November 2003) Filed alphabetically in Lippincott microfiche and microfilm file cabinets.
Get an industry report (e.g. Recreation industry).
- Click: Log On
- Click: Research Center
- Click: Plus Edition.
- In left frame, click: Look Up Industry
Example:
- Scroll down list to RECREATION.
- Now you have a choice. Do you want:
- the Industry Commentary? Click on the PDF icon
- A list of Recreation companies with links to their reports? Click on Recreation
Get a company report (e.g. Harley-Davidson)
- Click: Log On
- Click: Research Center
- Click: Plus Edition.
- In left frame, click: Look Up Company
- Type harley-davidson

- the Company Profile? Click on the HTML icon.
- the condensed 1- page company report? Click on the PDF icon
- Latest reports of all the Value Line companies in this industry? Click the industry name
The Company Profile contains:
- Snapshot: Current price, beta, P/E, VL ratings and rankings, historical and projected returns
- Company Performance Chart: Annual, 6 years
- Company Commentary
- Income Statement: 3 years + projections. Quarterly sales, EPS
- Dividends, Ratios
- Insider and Institutional Decisions (Buy-Sell)
- Historical ratios (3 years + projections)
- Industry Commentary
- Industry Peers
- Fund Owners
- Social Responsibility
- Edgar Filings
- Insider table
- Options
Get Additional Information on Companies
- Click: Investment Survey or Small/Mid-Cap edition or Plus edition.
- Click: Survey Issues. View current and previous 12 issues.
- Rank Changes: (1=highest; 5=lowest)
- Supplementary Reports: Late-breaking company news.
- Stock Screening: (Also use this feature to retrieve company data not found in Company Profile)
- Custom Report: with a selection of variables. (See also "Create a Report" below for more variables selection.)
Create a Report:
Use Stock Screening to create a report with user-selected data items for selected companies, or all companies
in selected industries:
- Select Research Center
- Select Plus edition
- Select Stock Screening
- Select an industry using drop-down menu, or enter company names or ticker symbols.
- Choose preferred screening criterion in Value Line Ranks, Value Line Preset Screens, and/or Additional Stock Information menus
- Click: Search (lower left) to display result table
- Print / Save / Email:
- Save: Choose Print Friendly (PDF) or Export (CSV).
- Email: First Save, then send as an attachment.
Value Line CD-ROM
- First, select: Summary & Index-> Value Line Screens->
- Check: Display
- Select a company name from the Browse list
- To see current financial data, double-click a company name
- In the top tool bar, you can select from several display options:
- General
- Balance Sheet
- Historical (10 yrs.)
- Earnings
- Commentary
- Supplement (Stock split or earnings news)
To screen for companies, click: the Funnel icon in the toolbar. To start over or exit any of the display modes above, click: Full Database.
Value Line Microtext 1969 -- November 2003
Issues from 1969 to 1979 are available on microfilm; 1980 to November 2003 are available on microfiche. All are located in the Microtext area in Lippincott Library.
The Value Line Survey has 13 quarterly editions, with each company and industry being updated quarterly. Reports repeat in the same edition each quarter. The Library subscribes to Value Line's Standard and Small/Mid- Cap Editions. On microfiche, the Standard Edition has a green header, and the Small/Mid-Cap Edition has a red header.
To find the edition with your industry or company report:
- Examine the Summary & Index (Part I) Section of any fiche sheet of desired year
- Find the page number of desired industry or company (the company page number appears just to the left of the company name)
- Use the table below to find which edition contains the desired page number. Note the edition number for future reference
- Insert the fiche sheet containing the desired edition and go to the indicated page. Remember, there are four quarterly issues of each edition in any given year.
