The librarians of the Biomedical Library are available to provide answers to reference questions and to assist with research during the following hours:
Telephone reference Call 215-898-5818 for phone reference. Email reference Email us your subject-specific or general questions at libref@mail.med.upenn.edu, and we'll make sure they are answered by the appropriate subject specialist. Turn around time is usually within 24 hours. Consultations Reference Librarians are available to meet individually with Penn students, faculty, and staff to provide technical assistance with research projects. Consultations may be arranged by requesting an appointment via email or by contacting one of the librarians directly. Current Awareness The Biomedical Library offers a Current Awareness Service to those who wish to establish a search profile for continuous updates from OVID databases such as MEDLINE and CINAHL/Nursing. This free service will automatically email the user with citations that match the search criteria. The searches will be executed each time the specified database is updated. Other options available to the user are PubMed's Cubby and ISI Science Citation Index Save Search feature. Both of these services require the user to maintain and execute the search. The citations can then be downloaded at the user's convenience. The Reference staff at the Biomedical Library are available to help develop search strategies for these databases. User's can also receive the Table of Contents from certain journals by using a journal alerting service available directly from publishers such as Elsevier and the Nature Publishing Group. Contact a librarian to help identify these journals and establish your alerting service.
