Instructions for Specific Databases
ABELL- Conduct a search and select your records to export by selecting the check box to the left of each one.
- Click on Add Selected Records to Marked List.
- Click on Marked List
- Click on Download Records
- Click on Export Directly to RefWorks
- Log into RefWorks and your records should automatically appear in the Last Imported folder.
- View the full citation.
- Click on Display in BibTeX format.
- Copy and paste the results into a document and Save As a plain text .txt file.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select BibTeX as the data source and ACM Digital Library as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Select the journal you want to search.
- Conduct your search.
- In Article Options, select Download Citations in RefWorks.
- A new screen will open with the tagged information. You can either copy and paste, or save the file as a .txt file. Note: you can only import one record at a time
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select RefWorks Tagged Format as the data source.
- Either Paste in the information or Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Conduct your search and check the records you want to export to Refworks.
- Click on the Export button on the bottom of the page.
- A pop-up box will appear providing options for exporting your records. The default setting are usually correct. In the Entries to Export tab Selected Entries should be chosen. In the Means of Retrieving Exports tab Selected Entried should be chosen. In the File Type tab DAT format should be chosen.
- Click the export button.
- Right click your mouse to save the records. Save the records as a text file and change the file ending from .html to .txt.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select Annee Philologique as the data source and select the appropriate database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
Note: Only one record at a time will be saved.
- Mark the record you wish to save by clicking the checkbox.
- Click on Download to Citation Manager.
- Choose Reference Manager format and citations with abstracts.
- Navigate to the local drive and directory where you want to save the file; it will be saved as a .ris file.
- Click Save.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select RIS Format as the data source and Reference Manager as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- From your search results mark the references you want to import and click Output: marked Full Records in the Select Format for Output drop-down.
- Click Export.
- Click RefWorks.
- The export will open RefWorks if it is not already open and automatically import the references.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- After you perform your search mark the references you want to import by clicking on the checkbox.
- In the Send section of the Search Results Page, select which records you want to send.
- Select Send to: RefWorks. Note: you have two options with or without Abstracts.
- Click Send.
- The references are automatically sent to RefWorks. If you are not already logged in to RefWorks, you will be prompted to do so.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
Blackwell Synergy Journals Online
- Highlight the records you wish to save.
- Select Download all highlighted abstracts to Reference Manager.
- Select Reference Manager format and deselect Direct Export.
- Select Download Records.
- Select the location where you want to save the file, type the name you want and select Text as the Save As Type.
- Click Save.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select RIS Format as the data source and Reference Manager as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Perform your seach and then mark the records you want to import.
- Click on the Export Selected Citations button on the bottom of the page..
- Choose Export Type: Abstract and Citation and File Type: PC, Macintosh or Unix as appropriate.
- Click Go.
- Select the location where you want to save the file and type the file name. Make sure the file name ends in .txt
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select The Cochrane Library as the data source and Controlled Clinical Trials Register as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
CSA (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts) Databases
- Conduct your search.
- Select the records you want to export and click the RefWorks link.
- Note: if you do not see a RefWorks link, click on the Save, Print, Email link.
- Click the Export to RefWorks button and the references are automatically exported to RefWorks.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder
- Perform a search and mark the references you want to export.
- Click on Marked list.
- Click Download.
- Choose your output format (either citation or citation + abstract)
- Click Download.
- Select the location where you want to save the file and type the file name.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select ProQuest Digital Dissertations as the data source and as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Conduct a search
- Click on the Add folder icon to the right of any results you want to save.
- Click on the Folder has items link, above the Result List on the right side of the screen.
- Click on the Save to Disk link from inside the folder.
- Click on the Bibliographic Manager tab.
- Click the radio button in front of Direct Export to RefWorks to initiate a direct export.
Note: Uncheck the Remove these items from folder after saving feature, if you want items to remain in the folder after performing the export function. - Click the Save button to begin the direct export.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Perform your search and then mark your desired references by checking the box at the left of each one.
- Click marked list at the top of the screen.
- Click the Download button towards the bottom of the marked list screen.
- On the print/download citations page choose dowload format: Refworks. Click the download button and save the file as a text document.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select RIS Format as the data source and as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- To do a direct export, select Download from the search results page.
- Select RefWorks direct import and click on Download.
- The export will open RefWorks if it is not already open and automatically import the references.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Conduct your search and add the records you want to import to your marked list.
- Click on Marked List on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click on Display for Download (ASCII).
- Using your browser's Save As function, navigate to the local drive and directory where you want to save the file.
- Select Text as the file type.
- Click Save.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select Emerald as the data source and All databases as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Check the items you wish to save and click the Save link.
- When you have completed searching, click the Saved link on the top blue bar.
- Choose the Full display and then choose Print.
- Select Save As from your browser and select Text as the Save As file type.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select RLG Eureka as the data source and select the appropriate database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- In RLG change your preferences to the Endnote format, save the preferences. (note you will have to do this each time you log in to RLG as your this change is not saved once you have logged out).
- Check the items you wish to save
- Select Full Format
- Select Save As from your browser and select Text as the Save As file type.
- In RefWorks don't use the RLG filter but go to the Refer Format filter and select Endnote as your database.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select RLG Eureka as the data source and select the appropriate database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- From your search results mark the references you want to import and click Export.
- To do a direct export, select RefWorks in the Export to: section.
- The export will open RefWorks if it is not already open and automatically import the references.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select Tools/Search Online Catalog or Database from the toolbar.
- Choose University of Pennsylvania as the online database to search.
- Compose the search you want to perform and click Search.
- Check the records you want to import and then choose the folder to which you want them imported.
- Your records should appear in the folder you selected.
Note: In some cases only one citation may be imported at a time.
- View the item you wish to save.
- Click on the prompt Download ALL Selected Citations to Citation Manager.
- Choose Reference Manager format.
- Save the file to disk.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select RIS Format as the data source and Reference Manager as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Conduct a search and mark the records you want by clicking the Tagged box.
- Click on the Output Options button.
- Select Short Entry if you just want the citation or Full Entry if you want the abstract to be included with the citation information.
- In the Output Type area, select RefWorks Export and click Submit to initiate a direct export.
- Click on the link to log into your RefWorks account
- Log into RefWorks and your records should automatically appear in the Last Imported folder.
- Click on the "AbstractPlus" view for the citation you wish to save.
- Under "Download this Citation," choose "Citation" or "Citation & Abstract" from the "Choose" drop-down menu, and "RefWorks" from the "Download" drop-down menu, then click the Download button.
- Your citation will be saved as a file with a .jsp extension. (If it does not automatically supply this, add.jsp to the end of the file name.)
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select "References/Import" from the toolbar.
- Select "RIS Format" as the "Import Filter/Data Source" and "IEEE/IEE Electronic Library (IEL)" as the database.
- Browse to find the .jsp file saved to your computer.
- Click "Import" -- your reference(s) will be in the "Last Imported" folder.
- Conduct your search and add the records you want to import to your marked list.
- Click on Marked List.
- Click on Export.
- Using your Browser's Save As function, navigate to the local drive and directory where you want to save the file.
- Select Text as the file type.
- Click Save.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select Ingenta as the data source and select the appropriate database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- From the search results page select the references you want to import.
- Under File Type select Axiom Tagged Format.
- In the Export/Email search result section choose selected records.
- In the Export/Email search result section choose to save the results as BibTeX
- In the Export/Email search result section choose browser and click Export Results.
- Using your Browser's Save As function, navigate to the local drive and directory where you want to save the file.
- Select Text as the file type.
- Click Save.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select Import Filter/Data Source BibTex and choose Database multiple databases.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- From your search results, select the items you wish to save by clicking in the checkbox to the left of the appropriate citations. Then click the Add to Marked List button at the top of the list of citations.
- A new button labeled Marked List appears once you have marked and submitted items. Click this button.
- On the Web of Science Marked Records Output Options Form, leave the bold fields checked. Check the abstract field if you want to include it in your database.
- Click the Save to File button. You should leave the option as Field Tagged. Select Text as the Save As file type.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) as the data source and Web of Science as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer and click on Open.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Conduct your search and save the citations you want to import by clicking on the Save Citation button.
- Click on the View Saved Citations link to retrieve your records.
- Choose the Directly Export Citations into RefWorks option.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported folder.
- Save citations by clicking the Add to Clipboard button.
- Review your marked citations by clicking the View Clipboard button.
- Select format Citations (BibTeX) and click Text.
- Using your Browser's Save As function, navigate to the local drive and directory where you want to save the file and save the file in the text (.txt) format.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select BibTeX as the data source and MathSciNet as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
Note: Not all fields download correctly
- Perform your search and then mark the records you wish to save by checking the box next to each record.
- Under Retrieve the above record in other formats, select RefMan format and Save to File.
- Using your Browser's Save As function, navigate to the local drive and directory where you want to save the file and save the file in the text (.txt) format.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select RIS Format as the data source and Reference Manager as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Conduct your search and check the records you want to export to Refworks.
- Click on the Download button.
- Use the browser command in the File menu to save the records as a text file.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select NCJRS as the data source and database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Select the references you want to export.
- Click on Results Manager.
- Select Complete Reference in the Fields section.
- Select the Direct Export format.
- Click the Save button.
- Select Export Citations to RefWorks and Continue.
- The export will open RefWorks if it is not already open and automatically import the references.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
Oxford University Press Online Journals
- Perform your search in a particular Oxford E-Journal--RefWorks won't work with results from a general search of all Oxford E-Journals.
- Select the articles you want to import into RefWorks.
- Click on the "Get all Checked Abstracts" button.
- At the bottom of the page click the button to "Download to Citation Manager" and click 'Go.'
- On the next screen, click "Download ALL Selected Citations to Citation Manager."
- Choose BibTex format and then use the browser 'save as' command under the File menu to save the page as a text file.
- Go to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select BibTeX as the Format as the data source and All Databases as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Conduct a search and select your records to export.
- Click on Selected Records.
- Click on the link that says Export Directly to RefWorks.
- Log into RefWorks and your records should automatically appear in the Last Imported folder.
- Select the references you want to export.
- Click on the Saved Marked Results button.
- Click Email/Export Saved Results.
- Under Export marked results to: select Refworks.
- Click the Export button.
- The export will open RefWorks if it is not already open and automatically import the references.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Perform a search and mark the references you want to export.
- Select Marked list.
- From the Marked List click Export.
- To do a direct export, select Export directly to RefWorks.
- The export will open RefWorks if it is not already open and automatically import the references.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Perform a search and mark the references you want to export.
- Change the Display option from Summary to MEDLINE.
- In the Send To drop-down, select Text. A window opens with just the references in MEDLINE format.
- Select Save As from your browser and select Text as the Save As file type.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select NLM PubMed as the data source and as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Perform your seach and then mark the records you want to import and click Save Selected.
- Click on View Selected.
- Click Save/Mail.
- Select OPAC Format as the record format
- Click Go.
- Click Save Selected.
- Click Save to save the file to your computer.
- Select the location where you want to save the file and type the file name. Make sure the file name ends in .txt
- Select All Files in the save as type field.
- Click Save. A file will be saved to your computer.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select Ex Libris ALEPH as the data source and RAMBI (Opac format) as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
Science Direct
Note: If you have an ISI ResearchSoft product (Reference Manager, EndNote or ProCite) installed on your computer the following directions may not work. An ISI Helper application may have been installed on your computer that is automatically called when you select the Export button in ScienceDirect. It will not allow you to save the information to text. We apologize for this inconvenience; we are doing everything we can to work with Elsevier to overcome this issue.
- Mark the records you want to import and click Export Citations.
- Select either All documents or Only these documents for the Marked records.
- Select Citations + Abstracts to export the record's abstracts.
- Select the RIS Format and click Export.
- Select the location where you want to save the file and type the file name.
- Click Save.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select Science Direct as the data source and select the appropriate database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- From the search results page select the references you want to import.
- Click Save As from the top of the search screen.
- Navigate to the local drive and directory where you want to save the file.
- Select Text as the file type.
- Click Save.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select CAS Scifinder as the data source and CAPlus as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Mark the references you want to export and click the small Save icon (floppy disc) on the left side of the screen.
- Choose the " Export to RefWorks" option
- Click on the OK button at the top of the screen
- The Refworks login window should open. Log into your account
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Mark the records you wish to save by checking the box next to each record.
- In the Export Selected Citations area, select RIS.
- You will be prompted to save the file to your computer, so click the Save button.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select RIS Format as the data source and the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- From your search results, go to the Notice Complete and click the Sauvegarder button to save each item you want to import.
- View the Lot de Sauvegarde (saved list).
- Select Telecharger (download).
- Select Notice Complhte (full record) in the Format area.
- Click the Ecran (screen) button.
- Your records will open in a new window. Using your Browser's Save As function, save the page as a plain text .txt file.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select SUDOC as the data source and as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- From your search results, click the items you wish to save and Add them to your basket.
- View the Basket Details.
- Using your Browser's Save As function, save the page as a plain text .txt file.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select TRIS ONLINE as the data source and TRIS ONLINE as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- From the search results page, select Print/eMail/Save.
- Under Destination select Save.
- Under eMail and Save Format Fields select All Citation Fields.
- Under format, select Format for exporting to Bibliographic software.
- Select Save. A new window will open with the tagged results.
- Using your Browser's Save As function, navigate to the local drive and directory where you want to save the file.
- Select Text as the file type and click Save.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select H.W. Wilson as the data source and All Databases as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
- Check the items you wish to save.
- Check Display checked records in BibTeX Format and complete form.
- Use your Browser's Save As menu to save the web page as a plain text (.txt) file.
- Log in to RefWorks.
- Select References/Import from the toolbar.
- Select BibTeX as the data source and Multiple Databases as the database.
- Browse to find the text file you saved to your computer.
- Click Import.
- Your records should appear in the Last Imported Folder.
