Searchable Funding Databases:

  • SPIN Plus is a web-based system available through PennERA (Penn's Electronic Research Administration) portal. SPIN Plus includes three components:

    • SPIN -- Searchable funding opportunities database that includes national and international government and private (foundations, associations and corporations) funding sources.

    • GENIUS Global WWW network and database of investigator profiles of scientific and scholarly expertise.

    • SMARTS Investigator Funding Alert System which matches investigator profile information with SPIN. Matches occur on a daily basis, and opportunities are emailed to researchers.

To access SPIN Plus, go to http://www.pennera.upenn.edu/ and click on Logon to authenticate using PennKey and password. Choose Find Funding from the lefthand menu.

  • Foundation Directory Online
    http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/27858
Search grants funded by Foundations in detail, search Foundations by area of interest, research grantmaking organizations.
  • Grant Advisor Plus (http://www.grantadvisor.com/ ) is a monthly newsletter providing information on grant, research, and fellowship opportunities for U.S. institutions of higher education and their faculty. The Database Search allows you to enter your own search criteria (such as funding agency, keywords, academic division, and more). Results are displayed in the same table format as the Deadline Memo Hyperlinks. The Article Search allows keyword searching through hundreds of abstracts and Federal Register articles.

Note: Access to Grant Advisor is by subscription, so only available through Penn IP addresses.

  • Grants.gov is a single access point for over 900 grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies.
    http://www.grants.gov/

Grants.gov allows organizations to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies. Grants.gov is THE single access point for over 900 grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies.

The database replaces CRISP and is maintained by the Office of Extramural Research at the National Institutes of Health. Users can search for scientific concepts, emerging trends and techniques, or identify specific projects and/or investigators, NIH funding expenditures, and the publications and patents that have acknowledged support from each project.

  • Federal Register (through COS ): http://www.gpoaccess.gov/fr/

The Federal Register (FR) lists U.S. federal agency announcements and information, such as presidential documents, agency meetings, grant opportunities, and proposed federal regulations. FR is issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO), and this searchable version is updated on the Web by Community of Science (COS) every business day.
